PHP Speed on Win

I have tested PHP 4.0.6 on Win2000Pro/256MB and Wi98SE/64MB and the PHP scripts run on Win2000 5x slower than on Win98. Both on localhost or on 100Mbit LAN. Both was slower than the same scripts from Internet over 56k modem... I have tested several LAN configurations and it is always the same. Is PHP on Win2000 really so slow or is something wrong on my machine? Thanks for ideas.

how much memory does your 2k box have.

Just now 256MB, I have also tested 128MB - the result is the same.

I'm runnning PHP on my machine and it seems to be running fine. I think I have the 4.0.5 version though, but that shouldn't make a difference. My guess is there is something wrong with your setup, either the PHP or the webserver. My guess is the webserver. Do they both have the same webserver? Are they configured to run the same? I think there is a setting for the webserver priority. So that could be it. It could be a ton of things.

On both computers run exactly the same. I have also tried several webserver software and the type of the webserver had no influence on the speed of PHP scripts. The speed of HTML pages is excellent on both machines, the only problem is with PHP. The machine with Win98SE has only K6/350 CPU and 64MB and all the PHP scripts run here 5-6x quicker as on the machine with Win2000 (Celeron 466 or VIA-Cyrix 550 and 256MB, HDD with 7200). The only difference is, that on W2k runs the webserver as NT-service. So I mean the problem is about PHP configuration. I have also tried several versions of PHP (now I am running v4.0.6), but the result is always the same.

I am witnessing the same problem. It runs faster on Win98 and incredibly faster on linux.

Did you find anything that could improve the speed of PHP 4 on Win2K ?

Unfortunately not. I am not able to find anything significant to the running PHP4+MySQL on Win2k...
