browsing a directory?

I need a way of allowing users to select a file from their own directory, which can then be copied and made available on my site for download.

Does anyone know how I allow the user to browse their own directory?. Can it be done in php, or is it a browser function?

u can use the file upload option to upload a file from the users hard disk and then upload to the server using the PHP methods

I think I've found a script on the net which does what I need to do. However, I'm only developing locally at the moment so only time will tell.
