Apache and Guestbook Help

Hey I'm having troubles getting a guestbook to work on my apache server. I have almoust no knowledge of any script and I've downloading many different scripts from numerous sites. Can anyone direct me to a site that could help a clueless person like me or even better could someone walk me through it? thanks

I also have Apache on win98. And I'm working on a guestbook script, but I'm getting problems writing and reading to an external file, even using fopen(). I get Resource #id errors and warnings telling me the file is not in the directory, when I know it is.

Once I get the writing and reading of files part of the guestbook script I can pull it off, but the manual doesn't show much love to Windows users.
