DNS server on windows 2000

not 100% php question.

here is my dilema, i own a domain, point it at a web host that I pay for, and then host the site at home on a windows 2000 professional box. for a long time now i've wanted to point the domain directly at my server, but there are a few problems...

i had to make a change to the DNS entry on the host to make everyone.net email work correctly.

how easy is it to set up everything i need to make a domain resolve when pointed to my IP on win 2000?

Well, let's say is no difficult to setup a DNS, even if you have to pay a lot of attention to errors not to infect the entire net. The greatest problem you might encounter is that you need two (2) or more dns servers to control a domain. This is due to availability issues, in fact each of them has to be on a different network. If one fails or goes down the other(s) can take its field.
You can even use one of those free dns servers you can find on the internet, but I won't consider this so much. Harder than normal to configure and if you make a mistake, you only know it hours or days later and it takes the same time for changes to take effect.

Get your computer name from control_panel->system->network_identification->full computer name (chars left of the first dot if you have active directory loaded) (ex: NS1).
Install DNS manager in Win2K.
In DNS mgr, choose your computer name, add a zone "com", call the file "com.dns".
In zone "com", add a domain, "yourdomain" with no ".com" after it. Give it the IP of your server.
If you have mail server program on your sever, in zone "com", add a MX (mail exchanger) record. Mail Server is your computer.
In IIS create a new website, use your local address, use the internet user (usually IUSR_<computername>) and allow anonymous access.
Register your server(s) with NSI as name servers (http://www.networksolutions.com/cgi-bin/makechanges/itts/host) using your IP and computer name with the primary domain you plan to use (ex: ns1.mydomain.com).

Not complete but a good start.

what if the DNS and web server are on the same box? will that still work right?

does the DNS manager come with win2k? where do i go to install it?
