I have exactly the same problem.I updated my cam and the error "dshellgenerichook missing" appeared. I uninstalled it again as well as my cam and the problem is still there.dshellgenerichook.dll There doesn't seem to be anything else wrong but it keeps bringing up the error whenever I boot up.Can anyone help us?
dshellgenerichook.dll error
I have the exact same problem!
Help! please
Well I seemed to have the same problem with the can not find dshellgenerichook.dll popping up once Windows98 startsup. I finally found that the createsw.exe in the windows\system directory was causing the problem. There is an entry in the registry under the "Run" entry trying to start this program (Not sure where it is at... Just search for "run" entry and you will see a bunch of programs here) . Not sure how it got there though? Anyway deleted it from the registry and it fixed the problem.... Hope this will help all!
Chuck
wait i didnt quite get it, i search for "run" and then delete what exactly?
i got this list when i searched for "run" in the windows directory:
Runhelp.cab
Rundll.exe
RunOnceEx Log.txt
Rundll32.exe
Ctregrun.exe
Runonce.exe
HELP please!
Hi there,I'm not sure what Chuck did but I actually went into start>run then typed in msconfig then hit OK. Go into the tag, start up and untick setFTPBack. It has the createsw.exe file in it and then apply, OK then restart your pc. It will stop trying to start up that program when you open windows. I don't know whether I should delete the createsw.exe program in Windows/system directory but anyway the error doesn't come up anymore when I start up. Let me know how you go. Good Luck Eva
i get the same error while starting my pc. i searched for the file and i didnt find it can someone please send it to me. OR atleast tell me where it can be found.
thanks so much! removing setFTPback from startup did the trick!
I have also the same problem!!!!

Tnx, My problem is solved too.
BTW, could this have something to do with the installing of imesh?
WOOHOO!!! thanks eva... that fixed the problem for me!!! :o)
Thank you, Eva. My problem solved too! :-)
probably, because it started when i had to uninstall imesh (my computer wouldn't shut down as long as imesh was in the system tray (is that what you call the thing at the bottom right of the screen?)
ok! I had this problem too and thanx to this discussion here I could fix the problem!
I'm running a W2K box but my approach should work fine on any other system.
The problem here is as mentioned somewere above the p2p client IMesh whith his Autoupdate function, which is installed not only as a service but also in the AutoStart folder. (Probably other clients like KaZaa use this functions too).
As mentioned also already somewere above you must remove one or more keys under "Run".
This "Run" key is in the registry however exactly under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run.
there are some keys each of which points to an executable file or dll that will be run at startup of the Computer.
There you'll find also a key with or createsw.exe or FTP_back.exe or both.
Remove these keys (you don't need them however).
Make sure also to search the registry for "Createsw.exe" as well as "FTP_back.exe".
Perhaps it is also in other places on your Machine.
Finally make sure to remove "IMesh" from the "Startup" or "AutoStart" folder, which is found under Start->Program Files->Startup
Reboot your System or logout/login to see if it worked.
I hope this helps anyone here!
It seems that some newer versions of the p2p installers work in another way leaving some keys and executables around.
do you know how to find any other bits of this that might be in the registry? i've just fixed a problem with another of these horrible .dll applications from new.net, (newdot~2.dll mean anything?) but i had precise instructions from them.
Sorry but I don't know about the problem collegated with newdot~2.dll, but if you haven't found something yet, I've found a discussion on removing it on http://courses.forum.ncsu.edu/cgi-bin/netforum/resnet/a/8--51.3.1.1.1. It also seems to be installed by newer versions of some p2p clients and seems to be in the "Run" key of the Registry.
best regards
greg
It seems that iMesh and New.net are the cause of the problem with the bundled files that get downloaded with other programs offered on the net.
like, Bearshare
Mp3.com
Webshots
KaZaA
Thanks for the help
hey, you try to think back what had you deleted. come on, i also lose that dll. file. so i find it on yahoo. then i seek you all got this problem too. ha.what a pity! i got an idea. you can format ur pc easily ! 1.create a startup disk.
2.put in the startup disk and restart the COM
3.type format c:/b/v/c/q when you r in DOS.
4.Reinstall the WIN98 or WIN2000. Finish!
when you afraid something will lost after Format the PC. let's back up the file which you want.if you got a partition, you just format c:/, if not, use CD-RW loh!that's easy or what? ok? try ur best. My Name is Sigen, you can call me cool. i wish you can fix that problem urself.HE!
I had installed the latest version of Imesh on XP and of course found myself staring at the imfamous dshellgenerichook.dll error pop-up and found out the following. It has to do with the "FTP_back.exe and I solved the problem by removing Imesh and then using "regedit" to edit my registry. I went to:
HKey_Local_Machine/software/microsoft/windows/currentversion/run/"
Once there, I deleted the entry in "setFTPBack". The error message stopped. Certain hidden files associated with the "FTP_Back.exe" will remain on your system but will remain inactive and in my case causing no furture problems.

yes this has something to do with imesh.haven't figured it out yet.but if you have roadrunner or dsl, i believe this file allows downloads from your pc while you are on but not logged into imesh.something to do with file sharing.Because occasionally i get a message from my firewall that something is going on and imesh is the culprit
