hi
when i install win nt with cd romm i receive
error code is 4
error code 4
Yes, I get the same error message when I try booting from my DVD-ROM. The setup runs and when it tries to load ntkrnlmp.exe from the W2K Professional, Server and Advanced Server CD's. If you have any ideas, let me know.

I just spent three hours on a friend's computer dealing with the same problem. I attempted several different methods, including upgrading from 98. I would still get this error every single time.
Anybody have an idea what's going wrong?
I should mention that I was installing win2k, not NT. I even went as far as copying the i386 directory (and everything else) to an empty partition...still got the same error with ntkrnlmp.exe .
Yes, I tried the same thing. I first tried Win2k Pro, then Win2k Advanced Server, Win98, Win95 and even WinME. Everytime I tried to run the install from CD or from the HDD I would get that error. I assumed it was some kind of virus protection but the BIOS didn\'t show any turned on. I checked the motherboard documentation and it showed a virus protection setting at the advanced settings but it didn\'t show up as an option on my BIOS. So I reset the motherboard to defaults and it finally started installing everything. Hope that helps.

Got the same problem. Resetted the bios and loaded standard setup parameters. Problem solved. I think it could depend on RAM Timing. BYE and thanks to Robert
I had the same problem occured after a bios update for asus A7v266ddr wouldn't let me set up any nt based OS. bios v. 1.06
rolled back the bios problem solved.
Uh guys, im trying XP and i get this damn error message. Never had this before, it gets to loading Kernel Debugger and then it pops up... i wrote zeros to my HDD, error checked it, fdisk'd it and then formatted it to FAT32 and copied the installation cd to my HDD using XCopy. Still got the same error. I think ive reset my bios but i cant really tell, took the battery, removed the jumper, and put on default settings. Still no go. Any suggestions? Ive spent about like 7 hrs on it so far. PLEASE Help!
Is this a new installtion? Different memory?
Try setting the front side bus to a lower setting if this works then either the processor or the memory isn't seated properly or the memory doesn't support the speed that you have it set at. Also try messing around with the memory timings in the bios.
It is new ram. 640mb. Old was a jacked 512. it was two 256s and one messed up 128 that made one of the 256's 128. so i switched em and now its not running. i hav Pheonix Bios 4 and i dont think it has memory timing options. Thanks for the response though.
Peace
I had the same problem a couple of hours ago, I had changed some memory and swapped the motherboard to a different case with no other hardware changes.
1 stick of memory would not work in dimm slot 4 but would in slot 3 this solved the error code 4.
The code does seem related to memory in some way, try 1 stick of memory at a time in different slots.
YOU ARE THE BEST!!! OMG! bows

Thanks Andrew. You are right about the memory being the issue. Tried resetting BIOS to defaults, new BIOS version, reseating mem and changing mem slots, but no go. When I swapped the 1-256mb with 1-128, it worked!
thanks that is what my problem was I moved the sticks around and it was all good.
Thanks for the help
