GD isnt outputting pictures

I got GD Library to work but the browser outputs all these weird symbols and not the picture itself.
I did download the GD from the website and the functions work.
The header statement does not work, it says already added Header("") etc.
The output is SYMBOLS like WebDings in Word. What can I do to get a picture displayed?

I don't think my code is wrong because I copied it from a book.
This problem goes for all my php scripts

The "WinDings" output you're seeing is the actual binary data which comprises the image. As you've gathered, you need to send the header mime-type associated with your image (image/jpeg or image/png). To make this work, and avoid the header info already sent error, you need to enable output buffering. This can be done on either a per script using the output control functions, or server wide basic using the output_buffering directive in php.ini. Make sure you have no output whatsoever before you set the new header information.
