windows XP IIS problem with GD

I recently clean installed winXP and set up IIS. I ran the php installer with GD support built in, but it will not work as it did with win2K. Any suggestions?

Umm.... what PHP installer are you talking about? If it's the one from php.net, there are no external extensions included. As GD is an extension, it falls under this category. Does PHP work otherwise (excluding GD I mean)? If so, grab the zip off of php.net, extract it, move the extensions to whatever folder the extension_dir is set to in php.ini and uncomment the load GD line. Restart IIS and you should be good to go. Let me know if it doesn't work....

The php installer is the php404 from http://php.weblogs.com/easywindows - php everywhere. This is the installer I used that builds extensions you select into the install and worked beautifully in win 2K.

I did work out my situation though. I uninstalled IIS, installed apache. Then I ran the php installer - all works great.

In that case, it's probably just a change in the way IIS works on XP. XP being so new, I'm thinking there are a lot of installers which won't work on the OS for a little while. Look at it this way, at least you got to move away from IIS to the much more stable, robust, and secure Apache🙂
