WinXP and servers

I cant find IIS on XP and I seem to be having trouble finding it on the net to download. So i'm thinking about going with apache, but I have to idea how it works. So does anybody know where I can get IIS, or is apache easy enought?

apache is very easier... and if you factor in the time you are going to take recovering all the data that will get hacked and corrupted if you use ISS, then apache is MUCH MUCH easier

If you go to control panel > add remove programs > windows setup >

you should see an option to install IIS from there. I have XP pro so I don't know if home edition has IIS.

I always used Apache on win98 for local development and now I'm still deciding about what I'll use with XP. IIS might be more stable.

Anyone else know? I'm just looking to use it myself really... Is IIS very heavy on system resources? I want to be able to use php/mysql and a few other things.

IIS is NOT more stable. period.

even on windows, i highly recommend apache. of course everything will run smoother if you switch to *nix.

IIS is cactus, and I think we all know that, but with PHP as an ISAPI module it absolutely flys... as opposed to PHP as an apache module ....on windows....

That said PHP/Apache on the right platform is faster and certainly more secure.

But if you are going to upload to a 'real' server and just want to test locally on Windows then Apache runs fine on XP - I have 1.3.22 running happily along, and look out for apache 2 which is apparantly going to be be much more windows friendly.
