I was wondering whats the difference between Windows XP and Windows Me and do you advice upgrading ??

Oh wow, are you ever asking this question in the wrong place!! This is a PHP programming support board..... not a WinDoze chat group. You'll get better (and more objective) answers to this question if you ask it on a WinDoze board.

However everything I've read is advising home users to avoid XP like the plague, and businesses to upgrade only if they're still running Win95 boxes. ME is yet another revision to Win95 and runs on top of DOS. XP is based on the NT kernel and doesn't use DOS.

ohhh gotta jump in here, XP kicks bum big time & you still have the command prompt if you want it.

& All the bad stuff you hear about Windows in general is probably true of ME which is a 98 + sort of OS and the biggest lemon of them all.

XP runs quite happily with about 128MB RAM - more is not less here! , and I have it tonking along on a 333 Celeron (+196MB RAM) ! - it runs all apps faster than 98 or NT and as a bonus looks nice as well 🙂

Bad points - you 'have' to get involved in the windows product activation milarky + dont even think about more than 1 monitor if you have onboard graphics. You will probably hear a lot of yak about unsupported software and hardware, but with the exception of the juggling onboard and vga at the same time all my apps and hardware run just dandy even when XP told me that they wouldnt.
