PHP4.0.2 on windows NT php_gd crashes Apache

I have Apache/1.3.12 , PHP4.0.2, and Oracle working on an NT Server 4.0 (SP5).

Everything works absolutely fine except when I load the php_gd.dll module/extension.

When I do this Apache crashes. I get fatal exception errors to be exact.

On our linux development box (Apache, PHP3 and MySQL) the php_gd works fine.

Any ideas on why this is happenning? Any solutions would be most welcome.

Why would it crash apache? Which version of php are you using on your NT system the exe or the apache module?

Using the apache module. I can't seem to make it work using the Php.exe (CGI).

YES, problem solved.

Thanks Shaun for giving me the idea to run PHP4 with Apache using php.exe instead of loading it as an apache module.

all works fine now and apache no longer crashes!

This is why it wasn't working, FYI:

there are currently problems when trying to use the gd extension with the apache module. if you need it please use the cgi instead.

It's a bit of a shame too because running php as a module is so much faster. Oh well guess they'll fix it in the next version 🙂

Oh so useful. So the authentication part of my script fails when I run as CGI and am told it only works when using PHP as a module. Then when the graphics part of the script fails I am told that the problem is graphics don't work when running as a module, you must run as a CGI.

That makes the development environment for my company pretty shafted. :-(
