installation problem on win2000, apache

my computer platform:
windows 2000 professional + mysql 3.23.47 + php 4.1.1
after installation of all these programs, anything works fine, and it can execute the <?phpinfo()?>
however, when i run a page with
session_start();
a dialog popup and warns me something like
""php.exe" has initiates a problem and it will be closed by windows. you need to restart the program.
a error message is created"

anyone can help??

Hi

The CGI-EXE-Version of PHP doesn't support sessions. Try the Apachemodule-Version if you want to work with sessions.

If you're running apache, geocities.com/akindele/ has a guide on how to install Apache, MySQL, and PHP as Apache module php4ts.dll. php.exe has other problems too, like the problem with $PHP_SELF.

It seems that by default, php.ini is set to store session data on the /tmp Directory, which doesn´t exists under windows. So, change that directory to one that actually exists.

You could always create a tmp directory (c:\tmp). It worked for me
