Failure to email

We have set up a UBB board the php.ini is below. We are having difficulty in sending out emails with the username & password once the user has completed the form. SMTP is set up.Once their form is submitted the page times out. The username & password is created but mail is not sent.

Any ideas?

is modular.sommba.co.uk your server? it says it's not able to relay for my address. i had that problem, so i installed a small smtp server on my machine, and changed my php.ini to read

SMTP = localhost
