Format hard drive.

I want to erase my hard drive to get rid of this idiotic networking password that I cannot erase, I've tried everything. How do format my hard drive. There are no tutorials in windows to do it.

Before you go and format your hard drive...there might be an easier way to remove the networking password.

Depending on what kind of password it is and what windows platform you are using you should be able to remove it.

P.S. But if you still want to format your hard drive, start the computer in MS DOS mode and type Format <insert drive letter here> I DON'T RECOMMEND YOU DO THIS!!!

Thank you for your reply. My problem is the registry has been locked up and I can't get in to turn off the netware (previous LAN) logon. I've erased the .pwl file and reloaded a new LAN card but I still get the logon at loadup. The previous administrator has disabled windows if you type in a wrong password and he has disabled the registry. This previous administrator doesn't know how to fix this problem so I am stuck. He knows how to create problems but not solve them.

I can't find any tutorials how to over-ride the administrator's hack, get into the registry, and fix the logon problem.

I really don't want to format the hard drive because that's going to cause all kinds of other problems.

Any ideas.

I know how to do a basic format, but not the proper deap format. This one takes just 2 mins to do and gets rid of most things!!! In dos type,

" format c: /s "

Then go into bios settings and set the boot settigns to

" cdrom, c, a "

Or so that cdrom is at the start. Then pop in your windows disk and the on screen instructions will guide you into loading windows again. If it refuses to load, type "setup" in dos and that should work.

Just make sure you have all your drivers ready and that they work.

Some real computer boffin would be better help, but this should cure your problem. Hope that was any help.

i'd start in safe mode (f8 on bootup) and remove the client for netware networks. set your primary logon to Windows Logon in the network control panel

I'm assuming your using windows 2000, and on a network of some sort. I'm not sure what your previous network administrator did?

Have you tried logging in localy to the pc and seeing if you have access to the registery that way?

He disabled the system registery, now did he do this via log in script for a user or did it physically disable the registery on each individual PC.

have you tried to disable netlogin service? Its differnat for each windows OS...

I was able to disable the administrators hack to not let me into the registry. I now have access. However when I reload the software for the LAN card the same box comes up with a username filled in already. It is NOT supposed to be there. I am using windows ME on a network. I do not have windows NT box checked if you are thinking that.

I have tweaked to disable logon box and netware server logon (it was a previous novell network). But when I reboot the same box with the username, password and domain comes up. It should not be asking for a domain.

I tried switching registries from another ME computer. Bad idea. I had to manually fix that after it crashed the operating system.

Now that I have access to the registry I should be able to completely DESTROY this administrators work but can't seem to lose this logon box.

An interesting story to say the least. Been working on this one for awhile now.

Way ahead of you there. Erasing the client does not work from safe mode. Once you reload the software the same logon box appears with the previous username filled in.

domain refers to client for ms networks. double click on client for ms networks in network control panel and uncheck Log on to Windows NT domain. if you don't need to browse the network for other computers remove all clients from network control panel.

what does Primary Network Logon: say in the network control panel? should be Windows Logon or Microsoft Family Logon

yes win95/98/ME is insecure and allow the network prompt to be bypassed. but there are hacks for the registry to stop the casual user from bypassing logon prompt. cancelling the logon screen will send the user back to the logon screen.
