Phorum Problem

Hi,

I'm in the process of learning PHP and I thought I'd try installing phorum.

I'm using Windows NT4 and the Personal Web Server. PHP is 4.0.2 and phorum is 3.2.1.

PHP seems to work fine, as does MySQL.

Phorum seems to work in general, I had no problems setting it up, I didn't even need to edit any of the files :-)

However, when I try posting anything I get the following error:

"Warning: Failed to Connect in C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\phorum\post.php on line 370

Warning: Cannot add header information - headers already sent by (output started at C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\phorum\post.php:370) in C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\phorum\post.php on line 414"

If you then press the refresh button on I.E. a message box pops up asking if you want to resend the information. If you click retry, it takes you back to the main forum page with the post visible.

I was just wondering how I might stop that above error from appearing?

I've looked in the FAQ that comes with phorum and the closest question I saw was in regard to editing the files, but I never did this.

Does anyone know the solution?

Hi owen,
I had a similar message when I first set up phorum. It turned out to be because the user that phorum was connecting to the database as didn''t have permission to /usr/bin. Hope this helps.

So if I create a usr/bin directory in NT, you think that will sort the problem?

Or does the usr/bin directory need to be elsewhere?

Sorry Owen, I was skimming and I didn't see that you were using NT. I use Linux, but the point is that, at least in my case, phorum could not connect to the database. You don't need to create a /usr/bin directory but in my system that is where executables are stored that allow a user to make directories, list directories, etc. Make sure that the user phorum is connecting as has permission to execute system commands. In NT, I think this means that the user needs access to c:\WINNT\SYSTEM. Also, when you set up a forum, be sure that the password you enter for the database connection is the same as you would use to login as that user on the database server.
i.e. if you can login to database forum on the server with username FOO and password BAR, then when you setup a forum, use username FOO and password BAR.
