file association problem

I need some help with this problem:

when I click on a file with .doc extension to open it with the word pad - I made the association with the pad not with MS Word- the pad opens but I get a message that the "file could not be found because the path was not found" and then the pad closes again.

When I made the association I did so from the registry because I could not find the .doc in the file association list but I cant find the problem in the registry now.

Any ideas ??

Also, just for future reference, try not to make registry changes unless:

a) you REALLY know your way around the registry
b) backup the registry first.

my thought would be that you need to reinstall MS Word
