PHP on Win98!

Well I give up. Installation of PHP on Win98 should be be a breeze. But I can't seem to do it. Is there a procedure how to install PHP on win 98 (PWS)???

Download the newest PHP4 and follow the readme. You must copy the dll file as stated and then edit the registry file. Everything should then work fine!

I use OMNIHTTPD 2.07 in stead of PWS and I am ver happy with it.

I think your best bet is to download the windows installer (link on phpbuilder front page) and have that install php4,apache and mysql.

I had the same problem with getting everything set up on Win98. Then I found a site with a file that will set up PHP, MySQL, and Apache all at once. Here is the address.

I installed this but when I clicked the go file, the dos window started but then stopped with the warning, "A required .dll file, WS2_32.DLL, was not found.

What did you do to acquire this DLL and where does it go?

I have Win2k and Win98 php, omnihttpd and mysql. The problems i had were copying stuff to the system directories .. DON"T do that and mistypes <sigh>

Also .. i used omnihttpd server. It is pretty good and is very simple to setup. AND you don't have to hack the registry to do things <G>

It really did turn out pretty simple so follow these directions and if you have problems you can drop me a line

Interesting PH. I didn't get an error when I installed mine. I just did a search on my system, and there isn't even a file called ws2_32.dll! Try installing it again or something.

I tried a couple of reinstalls, and the symptoms are (from the DOS window):

APACHE.EXE: cannot determine local host name.
Use the ServerName directive to set it manually.

ServerName is set to localhost, as it should be in httpd.conf, and I do have a 'hosts.sam' in my windows dir that lists localhost 127.0.0.1, so those are as they should be. Any clue as to why apache won't start? Or should I give up and try ominihttpd, as the next post suggests?

There's another installer at sourceforge.net/projects/phptriad. Since releasing it, about 15,000 people have downloaded it and I've had less than 15 people reporting critical problems. Of course there may be a large, silent, suffering group of users out there who just complained to someone else, but it appears to work for most folks.
