mail() not working on local host

i installed PHP3 on Win2000,but when i use mail() ,it is showing error " not connected"
My compueter is connected to internet. But i am using local host.
can anybody help me out here

try to set-up SMTP server in php.ini
default is set to 'localhost'..

or for developement purposes install mailserver on your computer.

I have set up windmail4(SMTP) and am having the same problem of not having PHP recognize mail command. I am using IIS4.0 and have tested windmail from the command line successfully.

Can anyone help?
