Windows XP + Apache legallity?

Hello,

There's a section of the WinXP EULA that reads:

You may permit a maximum of ten (10) computers or other electronic devices (each a "Device") to connect to the Workstation Computer to utilize the services of the Product solely for File and Print services, Internet Information Services, and remote access (including connection sharing and telephony services).

Does this mean that I'm not allowed to run an Apache website (for more than 10 computers, obviously) under Windows XP? And I have to run it under Windows 2000 Server instead? Or does it not apply because Apache is third party?

Don't listen to that, you can run a server using WinXP and serve as many people as your bandwith permits. Microsoft just forogto to realize that you bought WinXP and can do anything you like with your copy. But they are mostly talking about ceartin XP only features.

Not so. You have licensed XP from Microsoft and you're only allowed to do things with it that Microsoft will let you do.

However, I do believe that web servers are excluded from the 10 machine limit in the EULA.

Well, it says you only can let a max of 10 connect to Windows XP for file and print services, IIS and remote access. In this case, you are offering the Apache server service; XP is the host OS but that doesn't exclude it from the line of the EULA that you just quoted.
