PROBLEM with Apache+PHP under Windows 98

briefly explain my situation...
When running the Apache alone, no matter I load it as a service or not, it's stable.
But if I edited the httpd.conf and add some module which needed by php4 and then start Apache,
then this result in a unstable windows 98...
If I don't run any other program on this "server", everything is just fine...
because the crash always happens on some program like Word, antivirus...etc.
I can make it crash by press "windows key" + "e" also... (any hotkey will "take effect").

All of the crash symptoms will be gone after
I stopped Apache or get PHP module removed from httpd.conf (then restart Apache)...

This is really upset... /_\

Can someone give me some advice how to solve this problem?

(Apache 1.3.26 ; PHP 4.2.1 ; Windows 98 SE)

Try to not load PHP as a module in Win98. I have had similiar problems but not the same, and they resolved when I loaded PHP as an application linked to Apache. Put the following in your httpd.conf file. Make sure that you remove any library links to php as a module as well.

<IfModule mod_mime.c>
ScriptAlias /php4/ "c:/Path/To/PHP/Directory/"
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
Action application/x-httpd-php "/php4/php.exe"
</IfModule>

There could also be some other syntax between the IfModule statement, like AddEncoding and so forth, that is fine.

After applied the script you offerd, my Apache+PHP works very very well under Windows 98!!

by the way, do you have any idea about the performance about php module and php.exe?
and... how did you get the idea the script? thanks again~

Well I've spent alot of time working with win98 and Apache so it comes from alot of problems in the past. The performance of the way that you are doing will be a LITTLE bit slower, however, you most likely will never notice the difference. I hope it continues to work.
