force redirect problem, i'm a designer s

This is the message i get when i try to access a php document on my pws server using windows 98.

Security Alert! The PHP CGI cannot be accessed directly.
This PHP CGI binary was compiled with force-cgi-redirect enabled. This means that a page will only be served up if the REDIRECT_STATUS CGI variable is set, e.g. via an Apache Action directive.

when I look for a html page there no problem as in:

http://localhost/jobs.htm

but http://localhost/jobs.php i get the force redirect warning

i tried in the php.ini file turning off the force redirect as security is not a problem, this doesnt work...cgi.force_redirect=off

I enabled the scripts and execute in the properties section of pws for the relevent folder.

i'm stumped can someone help.

if you are using IIS to for PHP you have to enable a setting on IIS's console. follow these easy steps.

Open up the IIS services console by going to start > programs > Administrative Tools > Internet Information Services.
select the site you are using, right click on the site and select "Properties"
select the "home directory" tab and click on the "configuration..." button under applications settings section.
scroll down on the "application mappings" 'til you find the ".php" extension. highlight it and click edit.
make sure that "check that file exists" is checked. click OK on all the windows to save and exit the configuration.

if it's already checked, then this steps wont help and i don't what may be wrong. hope this helped.
