Read client directory

Can someone please explain (if it's possible) how I can place a browse button on a web page, where users can browse for a directory on their computer, then by hitting submit, PHP reads their directory and outputs the subdirectories to a text file. If not, any way I can retrieve subdirectories of a client computer for use on a page. I'm writing this to make a per-user database of legal live recordings of music artists which permit their shows to be transferred over the Internet. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Axion!

Imagine anyone could download/upload informations of your local directory, when you start any webpage! It would be quite dangerous!

I don`t know any way, using php, to do so. The only way i know is to use the ActiveX-Interface interacting with windows.

A more circuitous but possible way would be a little application, reading your choosen directory an creating an xml file. this xml file could be uploaded to your server, automatically processed an added to your database.
