Steve_R_Jones Yes; in the 8.4 announcement. The reply is there (now, after I looked at it again), but the front page isn't updated.

I get the same error now too.... It's our old favorite error that we've been asked to live with.

Is it the same bug that stops the thread listing from updating when replies are made? Because often people are replying but the only way to find that out is to actually look at the thread they replied in.

We gave this new platform a pretty decent trial I think. Can we go back to vBulletin now, please?

Yes...the issues are related. I'll attempt to get an overview of the sites future.

We might have to take up a a collection for the license. Two jobs ago (wow, was it really) we used vB. Huge system, a tad clunky but so featureful. Cost some cash.

Also got a server pwned via some plugin we weren't really aware that we needed to watch/patch ... OK, I mean, I guess we should've thought of that, but time....

dalecosp Have we considered phpBB? It's FOSS.

I'd be happy to put in some sweat to keep this community alive. The old sweats here are so kind and immensely knowledgeable. I dread the day I lose touch with you folks, and I am NOT a fan of GPT/AI. Between low-grade answers and the clueless and intolerant arrogance of certain mods, I have also had pretty poor experiences with stack overflow.

Or perhaps we can archive the old posts (some of which I still refer back to) in some searchable place and then we reconvene using some tech that is less vulnerable to the slings and arrows of outrageous spam/phishing/whatever?

Seems to me that the primary challenge is that these old forum sites are under constant assault by spam and trolls and bots and phishers. Some manner of exclusivity or modest financial cost would go a long way to eliminating this problem.

Steve_R_Jones how about we not live with it? I'm sure if you were to post some detail about the problem, the community here might be able to help remedy the problem.

The number one thing I know is that it can only be fixed via direct access to the database via the server.

If I'm not mistaken, it's an indexing issue.... I think if someone deletes a post or thread, the index doesn't get updated....thus the index thinks the data is still there.....and it chokes when it cant find it.

WOW.... for some reason I was logged out and was presented with posts from 2003.

            I HATE COMPUTERS.

It's possible that someone fixed our issues...
