  • I am also at Webdeveloper.com as far as i know they have adopted the same forum look so i guess you guys need a third backup location. I like this, i dont prefer it over v bulletin, but i think in terms of keeping the forum looking more up to date and a user experience akin to that of social media ( UUUGGHH dont shoot me please ) may keep some members around and prevent some of the general dying of forums.

  • It means the script is running everytime you refresh the page, whats triggering the script? you could use something like localstorage.set working with sessions or cookies. TO set a value that will dissalow the script from running if it has already run once. You could use ajax to fetch the post data submit it and prevent default to stop you url from going to where the code is being executed that way it get submitted without a refresh.

    • dalecosp lol i agree still useful as i was looking for a way to redirect a page after a form submission, everything today is done with plugins and WordPress my php knowledge isnt that great i try to shy away from plugins as much as i can on websites, due to performance issues , so this worked like a charm in writing my own little script. 🙂

      • Hey i didnt even know that you guys were in the process of changes the forum. Usually its such a big task i take my hat off the the web developers and people involved for this seamless transition. Plus it looks amazing. Well done. I hope it will encourage and help grow the online community.

        • Im learing php have been for a while and while i have kind of put this topicat the back of my head to move on i am still wondering , i dont see the massive use fullness of using classes in a web design. This being said there obviously is one because its what everybody does so i know I AM missing something. Its it all really just for the sake of making more modular code packets ?

          • I know there are many text editors out there sublime php storm and so forth and they are all very cool. I recently stumbled upon something called brackets. I had no knowledge this existed upon using i found i really liked it but the fact that nobody is talking about it online in reviews means that they arent using it. What am i missing about brackets that makes it lesser than those 10 best text editors lists we always see on google .

            • I used http://rips-scanner.sourceforge.net/ however like nogdog im not sure how good it really is , i would just run multiple checks with multiple scripts and programs and get an overview that way, one script may miss some security issue on your code that another may not.

              • We all know that in web design or development there are so many many lanes you can go down , and in the time of your career you might even change up from a web developer to somebody doing online marketing to making mobile apps. Its ll a little daunting when you look at it all. I am not in the position where im studying my third language, but i knid of wonder where am i going with this now. I dont have any clear directive. So my question is what are you as a web or graphic designer planning career wise , perhaps we can get some insih from older more experienced users to tell us about some of the paths we are choosing

                • this the mail you receive is being forwarded by the server you are hosted on. If you are using gmail for example link it with your web mail account and you can directly reply as the info@ect ect . So in essence you gmail will have you gmail , a acounts@ and a info@ depending on hw many email clients you have or which you need. No php or vulnerabilities.

Afraid I know nothing about Bracket. My free editor of choice for the moment is Visual Studio Code (a.k.a. VS Code). Jeez...a few years ago I never imagined I'd say that about anything from Microsoft: "favorite" and "free" for the same thing. 🙂

                    https://code.visualstudio.com/

Lol yeah when i heard microsft and free i was also confused. Quite ironic you mentioned visual as i got some advice from somebody whom i consider to be a great software engineer and he pointed me to visual studio ( he uses it for most things ) so it must be good, and free , its definitely on my list.

                    • In Php

Hello all thanks for your responses , i agree with the little added knowledge that i have now as to when i asked this question , laravel is a great MVC framework . As i dig deeper into what MVC does OOP and a few other things that really are of interest to me as they are what i intent to use , laravel really seems like the proper choice.

                      • Hi guys i shot away from using Dreamweaver for web development a long time ago as i strted going more and more into php , the ide that stuck for me was sublime , it made me realise how much Dreamweaver is really good for front end beginner design , but it ends there. Sublime has increase my workflow, my coding abilities even helped me learn more about php n particular. NOW a day ago i stumbled on bracket , which is very similar expet free , it almost seems too good to be true , are there any negative things i should be aware of about using bracket for web development ?

Btw i really love the library of php snippets that you guys have here really useful thankyou to everybody who contributes to it.

                        • In Php

So i have spend quite a while practising and writing some programs ( web based ) in php and have made use of many of its functions.

I have a question , many uears ago when i first learnt html and css i coded raw for most of that period and then i discovered bootsrap , and my workflow forever got better due to the easy nature of bootstrap.

The same thing happened to me with JavaScript and then jquery.

My question now however is ( bearing in mind that i want to cover some of node.js in the future too )
I have laravel , laravel however seems incredibly powerful , overkill for most of what want to learn more about right now. What is the bootstrap equivalent ( the framework wise ) for php , is it indeed laravel?

                          • I had a client who wanted something done in jave , its a massive project and i had to turn it down , and outsource it. I was talking to friend of mine and told him about what happened and he told me OH I could have done that java is super easy , ive being doing a udemy course ) ..... I cant disclose the details of the project here but its city wide involving every device from a watch to a tablet to a to cameras.... Whats ticking me off is the guy from udemy .

i went to look at udemy ( i would never pay to learn programming ) The courses seem ok but not exceptional to the point of where you could learn what in my opinion is atleast 3-5 years of java experience in a single year and less.

Anybody have any opinion on this? i mean i concede i could be wrong.

                            • Hi i didnt find any themes , i have looked and im reading about people having issues after the uprade with their urrent themes. I was wondering if you had upgraded and experienced any problems . Sorry i ould not provide you with a answer. First php upgrade with backwards compatibility issues and now possibly this. Always fixing things

                              • I just recently added paypal for one of my clients , i dont know if they have upgraded since your issue but i found no such problem everything was a straight run through.

                                • i recently went up to php 7 , a bit late and it wasnt really crucial for me , i found that it has many backwards compatibility issues with my old coding 🙁 . Just a word of warning to anybody considering the jump , and yes this is mainly due to non standard methods of coding. Also Php 7 has taken a big knock out of legacy coding.

                                  • HAHA ad here i thought i was the only guy doing that , open css file and put on second screen , open website in chrome , developer mode, make changes to css and see what it looks like ...., copy and paste straight over the old css. Fastest way i know how to style.

                                    • Im in the same boat 🙂 i only just like a few days ago started getting serious with php , hence i joined the forum , i started with laravel and while i love dreamwever , its nothing when compared to phpstorm and atom or sublime with regards to php. I wish they would integrate something that would make it more php friendly , but after using sublime ( this is the only one ive used sofar) i realised that that isnt their (dreamweavers )only problem. Dreamweaver is actually slow too. Especially is you use it with something like xammp.

Its hard to let go , i myself have done alot on dreamweaver its where i learned coding, but the lanscape of this industry changes often and as an ide dreamweaver has failed to keep up really.

On the adobe forums ive searched but it seems they have no real plans to change things anytime soon.

Anyway op just my opinion as a front end designer starting php.
